History

Smart’s Marina is located on Mazinaw Lake, about 1.5 hours northeast of Kingston, Ontario, near Cloyne. The marina has been family-owned for over 50 years and is steeped in history.

Originally the land housed a sawmill, but in the late 1950s, John and Barb Lester purchased it. They lived in a trailer for the first few years and began serving the growing number of cottagers with a tent store. As demand grew, they added small docks and started selling and servicing boats and motors. By the 1960s, with the establishment of Bon Echo Provincial Park, the marina expanded to offer more services, eventually replacing the tent with a log building.

In 1974, the marina was sold to Jim and Barb Smart, who ran it until 1990 when it passed to their son Steve and his wife Pauline. Under their ownership, the marina saw significant improvements: floating docks replaced crib docks in 1992, a larger retail space and service bay were added in 1998, and in 2007 a new two-story building with service bays and expanded storage was built. Smart’s Marina has always focused on exceptional service, building long-lasting relationships with customers. Today, the marina continues to provide outstanding service and welcomes both new and returning customers year-round.
